Uzbekistan, China to mull political, economic issues

      Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Sept.2

      By Demir Azizov– Trend:

Uzbekistan and China will discuss political and economic issues during the visit of Uzbek President Islam Karimov to this country, the message from Uzbekistan’s presidency said.

Karimov left for Beijing Sept.2 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to the message.

Uzbek president will attend solemn events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II and hold meetings with Chinese leadership.

Currently, 90 veterans who participated in the battles in Far East and China reside in Uzbekistan, according to Chinese embassy.

Uzbek president paid his previous visit to China in 2014. During that state visit, the sides signed over 20 documents on the projects with a total cost of $5.2 billion, as well as trade agreements worth of $800 million.

The trade turnover between the two countries has tripled over the last six years (2008-2014) and reached $4.76 billion, while the bilateral trade turnover stood at $2.1 billion as of H1 2015, according to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade.
